Congratulations to Senior Doubles team Marissa Mangala and Denna Zayed as they went 6-0 and won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! Seeded 3rd entering the tournament, Mariss and Denna defeated the top seeded team in the semis and their arch-nemesis TF South in the state finals to earn the State Championship. As a doubles team, this is Marissa and Denna’s second state medal, as they finished 4th last year as juniors. Also competing this past weekend were seniors Jessica Bachleda and Riyan Yanes. Entering the tournament unseeded,Jessica and Riyan finished 7-1 earning 5th place. After winning their first 2 matches and losing their third, the duo battled hard and won 5 straight matches to finish in 5th. Along the way, the team defeated two teams they had previously suffered defeat to. Jessica and Riyan were the only state contestants in the tournament in singles or doubles that earned a medal while being unseeded. The badminton team finished in 4th place, only ½ point out of 2nd. Congratulations to the entire badminton team and their coaches: head coach Cyndi Dyrkacz and assistant coaches Jim Tracy, Sukit, Erin Smith, and Del Smith! Great job - GO RAMS!!!
