Because we received information that 2 inmates from a federal prison in downtown Chicago escaped, we, in conjunction with the Burbank Police Department, decided to go into a “soft” lockdown here at Reavis High School on December 18th. What a "soft" lockdown means is that we make sure all the exterior doors are locked, we allow a limited number of visitors, and we only allow students to leave early if parents come to pick them up. To be clear…students and staff were NEVER in any danger! If there was any imminent threat, we would have gone into a "FULL" lockdown and contacted parents and loved ones immediately. The information came in to us at approximately 11:55am. Students went to all of their classes and we ran a normal class day from 12:00pm to 2:30pm within the building. We were in constant communication with the Burbank Police Department and we were given the “all clear” to exit our students and staff at the normal times.
Again, Reavis and the Burbank Community was NEVER in any immediate danger and we took this action as a precautionary measure. Please know…the safety and security of our students is our top priority. Thank you for your support.
