Congratulations to Reavis student, Javier Gutierrez! He has made it to the Illinois Tollway's 2016 Map Cover Art Contest semifinals. High school students in the 12 counties served by the Illinois Tollway were invited to submit original works of art created to promote the conservation of monarch butterflies, the state insect of Illinois. The Tollway received more than 75 entries from 33 schools throughout the region, from Chicago to Rockford. “The Illinois Tollway appreciates the efforts of all the talented young artists who were inspired to participate in the 2016 map cover art contest and help generate awareness of habitat conservation efforts for monarch butterflies,” said Executive Director Greg Bedalov. ”We are pleased that so many students submitted creative, compelling designs, and we invite the public to help us as we pick this year’s winner. This year's contest theme is: Save the Monarchs.The Illinois Tollway is working in partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council and other state agencies to enhance and restore monarch butterfly habitats throughout Northern Illinois. Ten pieces of high school student artwork made it to the semifinals and are featured on the voting site.
