Reavis Students, Parents, & Families:
As many of you may already know, a judge in the Sangamon County IL Circuit Court ruled against the enforcement of Governor Pritzker's Executive Order concerning masks and exclusions. The judge's ruling is ONLY for the districts and individuals that were named in the lawsuit. To be clear, Reavis High School - D220 was NOT named in the suit, so in consultation with our school attorney, this ruling does not apply to our district. Reavis will continue to follow the IDPH & Stickney TWP Guidelines, as we have since the beginning of the school year.
I understand this ruling will cause confusion and frustration among some of our faculty, staff, students, and families. I urge everyone to stay focused on the goal of educating our students, follow the current guidelines and mitigations, and be patient as this issue works its way through the court system. It is my understanding that Governor Pritzker will be filing an appeal tomorrow morning requesting a stay of his Executive Order until the Appeals Court can make a final ruling. This is more evidence that the prudent thing to do right now is to wait, see what happens in the coming days, and then adjust our practices when necessary.
As everyone knows, our top priority has been and always will be to keep our students, faculty, and staff members safe and healthy. We will not waiver from that goal. As we have for almost two years, we will continue to follow the guidance but always be prepared to change when appropriate. As more information develops and comes in, I will send an updated message to all of you.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter and trusting the process as we continue to navigate through these difficult times.
Sincerely,
Dr. Riordan, Superintendent
