Reavis Faculty, Staff, Students, & Families:
The purpose of this message is to inform you that the Burbank Police Department made us aware of a threatening Instagram post early this morning. The post sent out at approximately 12:30 a.m. was incredibly graphic and made threats towards Reavis, Oak Lawn, Richards, Stagg, and Tinley Park High Schools. The School Resource Officers, Superintendents, and Principals from all 5 schools communicated and investigated this post/case all day today.
The Burbank PD apprehended and arrested an individual at approximately 1:00pm this afternoon that we all believe to be the person who posted the picture and message. Unfortunately, this person is a current Reavis student. We have been in constant communication with the Burbank PD, and we will continue to work together to make sure this student is appropriately charged and disciplined to the fullest extent of the law and school board policy.
We will not tolerate any type of behavior that threatens the safety and security of our school community. It is unfortunate that some students use social media in a negative manner, especially after schools continue to provide guidance and clear direction of acceptable use of technology. I applaud the police officers in Burbank, Palos Hills, Tinley Park, and Oak Lawn, as well as the administrators in our neighboring high school districts for their work to keep our students safe; their joint efforts resulted in apprehending the offender within half a day.
We thank everyone for their continued support and trust as we navigate through these difficult times and events.
Sincerely,
Dr. Riordan
