Happy November! I am so very thankful to spend each school day with the students of Burbank and Stickney Township. There are so many capable, determined, and kind students genuinely interested in learning. We are told time and time again how fantastic our students are, and I simply cannot disagree! Our students continue to challenge themselves academically, athletically, and in activities. There is so much to celebrate this month starting with the fall musical, The Addams Family, running Thursday-Saturday, November 7-9. Our award winning drama team is back at it and will not disappoint! From the stage crew efforts to the actors on set, the creative costumes to the musical numbers, this is a show you won’t want to miss! Also happening is the transition from our fall to winter athletic season. Our fall teams placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their respective sport--quite a competitive showing for the Rams! Congratulations to our Girls Cross Country Conference Champ Team who also secured the sportsmanship award. We have two coaches who earned distinguished awards. Coach Laurie Schoenfeld was awarded the Cross Country SSC Coach of the Year and Coach Sue Sporvieri was voted the IHSA Assistant Tennis Coach of the Year! They are surrounded by countless other coaches who make a difference every day in our students’ lives. I also have an exciting update from the classroom. Senior Fattin Nassan is the 1st place art contest winner in a six state regional competition earning a $5K scholarship for her submission to the Anti-Defamation League’s 1st Amendment Contest. Congrats also to Ms. Cunningham, Fatin’s junior AP US History teacher, who will also be recognized as the educator who submitted the most entries in the art and written contest.
Finally, thank you to our Veterans. Reavis has had many graduates pursue the military and serve our great country. We honor and thank those men and women for their years of service and protecting our freedom. Our students and staff are thankful daily when they acknowledge the beautiful tribute wall located in the library which is dedicated to those in our armed services. This visible reminder weaves together generations of Rams who proudly walked these halls that led to their calling. Now is the perfect time for each one of us to be a positive citizen and honor our country. There are many ways we can show respect for our civil liberties such as voting, being a volunteer, demonstrating compassion, or taking responsibility for our actions. Rams, onward together, this November!
